ESolar's First Solar Power Tower Operational!

APS Solar Power Plant

Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) announces plans to build the world's largest solar facilities. 280 megawatt (MW) concentrating solar power (CSP) plant to be built 70 miles southwest of Phoenix, in Gila Bend, Arizona. The Solana Generating Station will produce enough energy to serve 70,000 APS customers when operating at full capacity. The plant will be built by Abengoa Solar Inc., and is scheduled to provide renewable energy beginning in 2011.
Spanish for "sunny place," Solana will not emit greenhouse gases and will provide APS with more solar electricity per customer than any utility in the U.S. The facility also would be the largest solar power plant in the world if it were in operation today.

COM-BAT

University Of Michigan College Of Engineering is trying to get these gadgets used for spying purposes I presume, in times of war.Basically it's a 6″ robotic spy plane that is made similar to a bat, as you can see in this picture above. Known as COM-BAT, it uses a very low-powered miniature radar and a sensitive navigation system to help it find its way even in the dark!
Its power comes from solar energy, wind, vibration and other sources to help keep its battery going. I love technology!

A $10 million dollar grant to the University from the Army is already underway to get this gadget off the ground and flying.

Solar Panels On The Moon?

I caught the end of an episode of "Naked Science" last night about the moon. What I found interesting is that they were talking about using machines to create solar panels right there on its surface. I forget how many miles it would take but they said they could power the entire worlds energy source we use everyday by doing this. Another interesting thing was that they could use radio or some sort of radar to send the energy to the earths surface and receive 80% of the solar power energy. They are hoping to have this in effect by 2020, that would be a great way to use the moon since it appears unoccupied. I tried to find the video on you tube so I could watch it for more facts but was unable to find it, if you come across this video "Inhabiting the moon" (I Think its called), I would say its a must watch.
